Course Development Program

The Pursuit of Quality

Since its founding over twenty years ago, the Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC) has consistently sought out opportunities to provide innovative, high-quality learning experiences to the students it serves. The growing interest in online learning, which saw a rapid increase during the COVID-19 Pandemic, has generated a spotlight on quality in online education. Not all online courses and curriculum are created equal, and many are searching for common best practices to produce a quality, yet flexible, learning environment.

To address this need, the Course Evaluation Rubric was created to guide the intentions of the Course Development Program (CDP). Months of research and collaboration between eLearning leaders in the community college system resulted in a rubric that was born from critical sections
of the Quality Matters Standards, Canvas Course Evaluation Checklist, the MSVCC Recommended Standards for Course Design, and the Universal Design for Learning Checkpoints.
